Perth and Freo struck me as a place of lines and curves. Perth is an amazing city. It is not only the light that makes it special, but also the way it is built. The colours, the lines, the combination of old and new, the space.
Bud takes Tom and Simon to play chess and table tennis on King's Square again while I take to bus to Perth City Centre with Isis and Bink. The train that we wanted to take does not ride, because this weekend the rails and some platforms that have been renovated are re-connected. The replacement bus is a pleasure to take though and not only because it is free..... We drive through some of the beautiful suburbs of Perth. We like what we see.
We approach the city without a map. Which is maybe not very smart as distances are considerable and Bink's little legs can walk far, but not that far (and the holes in his shoes are getting bigger too ;-)). We find that there are maps on almost every street corner so we do find our way pretty quick. We explore the centre, have lunch on the ferry jetty, see dolphins in the river and enjoy ourselves. The people that walk through Perth are very diverse. From tourists, to busy shoppers to alternative hippies. We also see many drunk and homeless people.
Taking the bus back is an experience as there are a few very drunk and therefore interesting people on board...... Isis looks enquiringly at me while Bink sleeps through it. Isis is learning a lot today.
Back in Freo we visit the Maritime Museum. I can't get enough of the light, the building style and the way the museum is set up. And I'm not even very interested in boats!
The day is over before I know it. Everybody is in bed exhausted. We packed the car. Little hand luggage backpacks are ready to go. Tomorrow morning we take the car to the train and we fly back. I find it hard to believe that on Monday we will be back into the normal routine.
