De warmste week in 100 jaar is voorspeld voor deze week. En daarmee neemt de kans dat de electricteit uitvalt exponentieel toe. Uit betrouwbare bronnen vernemen we dat ieder jaar als de hitte meer dan een dag aanhoudt de electriciteit uitvalt. Dit komt door de enorme toename van stroomgebruik door de airco's. Melbourne set to sizzle
Victorians are facing potentially the hottest week in 100 years with temperatures forecast to top 40 degrees until Sunday.
The predicted hot spell of 40-degree days has the Country Fire Authority readying for a busy week, Premier John Brumby hosting a meeting about heat-related contingency plans and retailers set for a spike in air-conditioner sales.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Ambulance Victoria briefed Premier John Brumby today about the state's readiness to cope with this week's potentially dangerous weather.
"This week's heatwave is longer and hotter than nearly all Victorians have experienced in a lifetime,'' he said.
Mr Brumby urged Victorians "to be vigilant for their neighbours, family and friends and especially check on older, sick and frail people who may need help coping with the heat''.
The Premier also noted that Victorian energy demand could reach record levels later this week, but said he was confident there will be "adequate electricity supply to meet demand''.
Mr Brumby pledged to "monitor the situation''.
